MADISON'S 4 MONTH UPDATE
Warning: Some people might think this is an over share, but I think it is important, so that is why it is in here, Anyway
We have been a little worried about her because she doesn't poop very often. She was pretty much refusing to breast feed. I have been fighting with her for a month on this problem and nothing was getting any better. I was going to wait until we went to the Dr. to find out if we needed to do something different, or maybe if we needed to supplement with formula. She was having a difficult time taking a bottle, so I was a little worried. When our Dr. appointment was pushed back to the 7th of may, I decided to call a lactation consultant. By this time, it had been 13 days since Maddi had had a poopy diaper. We have seen the Dr. for this before, and he suggested juice. When I went to the consultant, she discovered that Maddi has only gained about 2 ounces in the last month and only 3 and a half pounds since birth. It was a shocker to find all that out, and to have her tell me that usual weight gain is 4-8 ounces a week until 4 months of age. Madison started out around the 95th percentile for weight, but has dropped to around the 50th. She then told me that, the reason she is not pooping was probably due to the fact that she is not getting enough to eat.The consultant and I talked about several things that we could do to get Madison to keep breast feeding, but she also told me that I should get her to start taking a bottle because if my milk dried up, I would be left with nothing to feed Madison. Today, we tried a new formula, and Madison is taking to it very well. After many, many tears we have decided that it is time for Madison to switch entirely to formula. I was very upset with this because I wanted to feed her for at least 6 months, and if possible go for 9. I have had to accept this, but it has been difficult. I am worried that people will tell me that breast is best, which is the last thing I want to hear. For those who do want to say that. Trust me, I tried everything, but I have to do what is best for Madison. We are hoping she starts to put on normal weight again. As of right now, we have to weigh her every week to make sure she is not losing weight.
